The biblical telling of the story of Eve, the first woman, depicts her as a weak sinner and temptress, who passes on a fundamental guilt that becomes an integral attribute of her female descendants. My collages explore the ways this story transcends time and informs the experiences of women today. Be it in the shaming and objectification of our bodies, the assignment of narrow social roles, or the dismissal of our emotions and desires, we continue to be viewed as Daughters of Eve, infinitely tainted by guilt.
However, my work goes beyond exploring the impact that this fragmentation and guilt cause to our bodies and minds. It also seeks to reclaim Eve’s story and interpret it as a story of curiosity, bravery, and agency where women ask for more than that which is ascribed to them.
